The Woman who fell to Blackpool!

IT'S ABOUT TIME... TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DOCTOR!

There's a new star taking her place amongst the famous illuminations on Blackpool's golden mile this evening, so head on down to Madame Tussauds to follow in the first footsteps of new Doctor Jodie Whittaker and take your place aboard the most famous time and space machine in the universe!

Like the Time Lord herself, you'll make your way past Saturday night before entering a mysterious new part of the attraction...

There you'll see Doctors past and present come and go as the time traveller changes before your very eyes until you reach the present... and future!

You might remember that Jodie Whittaker's 13th Doctor was announced on 16th July 2017 following the Men's Wimbledon Final (Yes, on a Sunday!) and featured the new Doctor making her way through a leafy scene to find the TARDIS amongst some ancient ruins.

Now you can take the same journey, travelling through a set designed by the show's makers as you happen upon the new sonic screwdriver, adding to the famous illuminations.

As you move through, you'll hear that famous "Vworp vworp!" as the (genuine Series 11) TARDIS materializes before your eyes to meet its new owner...

...and this is where visitors can pose with the astoundingly life-like wax replica of Thirteenth Doctor herself!

Jodie Whittaker, who attended a sitting to ensure every detail had been perfectly replicated, said “It’s an incredible honour to become part of the Madame Tussauds family, they’ve done such an amazing job!”

Once you've marvelled at the incredible detail on the Doctor herself, including the official costume supplied by the BBC - right down to the stripy socks! - you'll have the opportunity to travel in style with your choice of three TARDIS interiors in the interactive green screen area.

The Doctor Who area will be open to visitors of the main Madame Tussauds Blackpool attraction from Friday morning (tickets cheaper when booked online), but we'll have an update from Thursday night's launch soon.

The new series of Doctor Who got off to a cracking start with debut episode The Woman Who Fell to Earth scoring 8.2 million in overnight ratings (consolidating to 10.9 million to give the highest season launch for the series ever)!

PRESS RELEASE: Doctor Who at Madame Tussauds Blackpool

JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED!

"Madame Tussauds Blackpool launches an out of this world new Doctor Who area this Thursday (18th October), including a wax figure replica of the Thirteenth Doctor.
The Thirteenth Doctor and the TARDIS will set up home in an immersive new area at the attraction, which will give visitors the opportunity to experience many aspects of the world- famous television programme.
The new area takes inspiration from the TV series that has entertained generations since 1963, and is the ultimate Doctor Who fan’s dream, featuring plenty of photo opportunities. Venture into the forest and search for the Doctor’s trusty sonic screwdriver, before coming face to face with the Doctor and the TARDIS, the very prop used onscreen throughout Series 11.
Each detail of the Doctor’s signature features has been replicated, with the wax figure’s costume commissioned by Doctor Who costume designer Ray Holman. The outfit includes the Doctor’s long coat, rainbow t-shirt, striped socks and signature braces.
The new area captures a significant moment in the show’s 55-year history, as Jodie Whittaker becomes the first female to play the time travelling alien, bringing a different dimension to the Whoniverse. Jodie has been very involved with the creation of the wax figure, attending a sitting and ensuring every detail had been perfectly replicated.
Speaking of her figure, she said: “It’s an incredible honour to become part of the Madame Tussauds family, they’ve done such an amazing job!”
The hit TV show has proven to be more popular than ever, with the debut episode scoring 8.2 million in the overnights (consolidating to 10.9 million to give the highest season launch for the series ever).
Mat Way, Global Director, Live entertainments, BBC Studios, said: “We are hugely excited to be working with Madame Tussauds at such a pivotal time for Doctor Who. We have been engaged in the development of the wax figure from inception to creation, therefore we can’t wait to see the Thirteenth Doctor finally in position at her Blackpool home.”
General Manager, Matthew Titherington, said: “We are thrilled to announce the addition of a Doctor Who area to the attraction and welcome the first female Doctor Who wax figure.
“The show has a hugely loyal following, not only in the UK but across the world, and the new area will be a must-visit destination for all Doctor Who fans, offering the chance to get up close and personal to all things Whovian”.
The Doctor Who area is part of the main Madame Tussauds Blackpool attraction and is included in the ticket price, starting from £13.50 for children and £18.00 for adults (additional 20% discount available when tickets are booked online)."

"I'll take you to... BLACKPOOL!"

It's coming home! "It" being Doctor Who, and "home" being Blackpool, whose Golden Mile housed the original, fondly remembered, exhibition between 1974 and 1985.

After a 5 year return between 2004 and 2009, the collection of props, monsters and costumes including Bessie, Ice Warriors and Yeti, went its separate ways.

Now, in 2018, and just in time for the launch of a whole new era with a brand new lead actor in the role, Doctor Who is set to make a triumphant return not just to a TV Screen near you, but to the Golden Mile!

Yes, thanks to the wax wizardry of Madame Tussauds Blackpool, fans old and new will be able to get up close and personal with the Time Lord and her trusty TARDIS, to follow in the first footsteps of the new Doctor and to travel back in time for themselves...

YOU could be in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets to Thursday 18th October's exciting launch evening, which starts at 6pm. Just tweet us at @tygerwhocame2t with "Blackpool, 2018!" to be in with a chance of winning.

The attraction will be open to the general public from Friday 19th October, and you can find details of how to get there at Madame Tussauds' site here. We took the train, and the attraction is about 15 minutes walk from the North Pier, or 5 minutes by tram (you'll need to get off at the Central Pier stop).

Of course, it's not just your favourite time traveller that's brought to breath-taking life, there's comedians, actors, sportspersons and superheroes for you to meet and take your #MTselfies with!

Here's a selection of the treats in store for visitors...

Here's someone that's no stranger to planets and stars - it's Professor Brian Cox!

National treasure and chronicler of all our planet's wierd and wonderful lifeforms, it's Sir David Attenborough.
You don't have to be a celebrity to try the bushtucker trials and scream "let me out of here!"

You can see England stars past and present...

...who've sadly never been this close to holding the World Cup!

The (current) Centre Piece of the attraction comes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with all your favourite superheroes larger than life and bursting into action!

Meet Thor, the God of Thunder (and no, you can't take him home!)

Giving it a bit of Jane Foster, but sadly still not worthy :-(

You wouldn't like her when she's angry!

You'll also see an impressively flying Iron Man...
...have your picture taken with your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man...
...and boogie with Groot and the Guardians of the Galaxy!

Back down to Earth, why not make yourself at home on the cobbles of Weatherfield?

After you've caught your breath in the Rovers, prepare to have it taken away by the Kings and Queens of Pop and Rock...

Take a step on the most famous zebra crossing in music history!

There's a great behind the scenes section as Alan Carr narrates how his doppleganger was created. "Who" else might be getting the same treatment I wonder...?

You can meet TV stars from the world of comedy...

Great detectives...
...including this incredible team-up crossover that never happened(!)

...and childhood heroes!

Aliens!

So get yourself down to Blackpool as soon as you can!

 Meet Alan Bradley Seagull!

So it's good night from me...!

Coming Soon... Thursday's Exciting Launch!
