8th Doctor: Season Eight (2008)

Dead London
The 2nd series of "New 8th Doctor Adventures" kicks off with & a new theme arrangement which everyone hates? Must be the fans of the incomprehensibly popular yet drab & out of tune Arnold version because in fact it's just the original Derbyshire version with some doubling of the main melody. It's not great but it's vastly better than the Arnold version apologists' embarassingly hysterical reactions when it 1st came out.

's solid, if uninteresting; Springheel Sophie's great but Sepulchre's dull. A low key season opener but McGann & Smith's sparky partnership is such a joy, the mixed up time zone story ticks along enjoyably. 6.5/10

Max Warp
is 1 of the best; a slick murder mystery with smart dialogue & peerless performances from Garden & Fleet and by now McGann/Smith easily hold their own compared to Eccleston/piper or Tennant/Tate. is special stuff. 9/10

Brave New Town
's got some great ideas but like it's plastic antagonists is rather hollow. Another strong guest cast in with Griffiths touching & Dunbar deserving of a return.

Lovely to hear all the classic Auton sound FX in . It's built on a gag re: Bryan Adams' neverending number 1 of 1991 but doesn't outstay its welcome. An unusually thoughtful approach to the Autons. 7/10

The Skull of Sobek
is typical average ; could have been Sheridan Smith's Eldrad but all in all just so-so; fair but forgettable. 6/10

Grand Theft Cosmos
is more like it, a fun caper that zips along; interesting that McGann & Smith recorded lines separately; you can't tell. has fun & interesting returns for Karen & the Head Hunter, who's becoming a recurring character u look 4ward 2. 6.5/10

The Zygon Who Fell to Earth
features a welcome & clever return for the shapeshifters & the progression of the Aunty Pat storyline. 7.5/10

Sisters of the Flame / Vengeance of Morbius
& is a satisfying season finale but not enough of the sisterhood or of Morbius really doing much.

Alexander Siddig, Nikolas Grace & Sam West all turn in star performances, but Rosto is wasted & Morbius, bar 1 scene chatting to the Doctor Doesn't really get to do anything. & 8/10 together (and each actually).
