Oh noes, a floating meatball!

In the jungle, the mighty jungle, a skinny Oli Reed lookalike plants a grave. RIP Egard Lumb, we hardly knew ye. In fact never.

Near a rocky pit (and it's not even a quarry!), a Professor and his assistant have hit a rich load...
Oli Reed warns them to get back before the sun goes down. Apparently the expedition's been dying off 1 by 1.

Now beardy man's been killed by the Invisible Man, who clearly thinks those white boots were a bad choice.

The jungle looks brilliant on film. All Doctor Who should've been on film all the time, like all those ITC and ATV shows.

The Professor's assistant makes it back to base camp, but he too is faded away.

Aboard the TARDIS, the Doctor is still trying to get Sarah to London from Loch Ness.  The TARDIS console room's nice and roomy.

Tom's look is classic & Lis is looking fine too. Good job, team TARDIS!

They pick up a distress signal and land on the jungle planet, but there's definitely something spooky going on.

Sarah gets the heebie jeebies when the invisible man shakes his maracas at her.

It's only a model. Well, it's only the front end of a hoover, by the looks of it.

David Maloney obviously enjoys shooting on film, some great moves here. The jungle is so well lit. Really spooky.

Ah, Prentis Hancock playing a wooden nutter again. Lovely. He's the commander, and bosses his older lieutenant.

Davros! It's Michael Wisher, without his head in a bag this time.

He is *supposed* to be crap, though. Out of his depth & paranoid, threatened by Vishinsky's greater experience & loses the plot when he can't cope. Comes off as just plain stupid but there is a story reason for it.

The Doctor & Sarah arrive in the video part of the jungle & locate the source of the distress call.

Sarah volunteers to go back to the TARDIS to fetch equipment for the Doctor... It seems so odd now that Sarah doesn't have a TARDIS key.

The TARDIS console room doors are on the other side of the room from usual now. Looks really weird.

Oh, no, there's two sets of doors, with the doors to the rest of the TARDIS set back in an archway.

Vishinsky & the terribly fashioned space crew find the TARDIS. He thinks it's a trap.

They fix some bobbins to the outside of the TARDIS & teleport it to their ship - with Sarah still inside.

But someone else is lurking - it's the Professor, Sorenson. How's he survived?

They go to base camp where they find the Doctor. It's usually about this time in an episode he gets accused of murder...

Sarah finds Salamar's acting breath-taking.

The spooky rustling sound seems to come from that black pool in the rocks where Sorenson was working...

The ship lands...

Its super-duper futuristic landing equipment includes a ladder lowered by strings.
Sorenson is Morestran for Fruitcake.

Mind you, Tom's not looking much saner, staring into space like that while Vishinsky's talking about him.

Watch out, the no-longer Invisible Man (he's a red outline now) and his maracas are back! End of part 1!

The invisible man fades away some of the crew, despite their cool miaow-ing guns.

Those guns are as useless as they look. They sound good though. They go Miaow! Miaow! I want one.

Louis Mahoney, brilliant. He was great in Blink & Being Human & of course in the Germans episode of Fawlty Towers!
The occuloid tracker is hilarious. What is with that eyeball!

The Doctor claims to have met Shakespeare. "Charming fellow, dreadful actor..."

Complete extraction of bodily fluids? I reckon the ship did it. With it's ruddy great hoover attachment.

"This is a military expedition with military objectives. And impractical uniforms with snazzy little white boots."
Sorenson's priority is his mineral samples. Salamar's is liquidating hostiles.

The Doctor & Sarah reach the spooky black pool, where they notice there's no reflection.

Ponti gets a bit too frisky with Sarah & falls into the anti-matter black hole thingy. Let that be a lesson to you.

No one wants to listen to the Doctor's warnings, as Sorenson claims his discovery can solve the energy crisis...

Salamar decides to make it impossible for them to escape by locking them up... with the TARDIS. Skills.

Urgh! Tom's taken his scarf off! It looks weird! Put it back on, put it back on!

Sarah suggests doing a runner in the TARDIS - just like she will in the next story too.

They find Sorenson's stash of multi-coloured crystals.

The id monster attacks again. Yay! More useless miaow guns!

Going alone is all very noble and heroic... BUT WHERE'S HIS SCARF!

The Doctor goes to (the) blackpool to negotiate with the id monster.

Referee! That was clearly a dive form Tom! End of part 2!

Sorenson claims the Doctor has ceased to exist...

Salamar has come round to the Doctor's warning and orders the crystals off the ship.

Tom's having a weird trip-out. Isn't this where the-dark-side-of-Omega's-mind-personified-as-a-pig-goblin lives?

Sarah goes to blackpool, where the Doctor is clambering out with a tin of sweets.

The story takes a bit of a turn here, as Sorenson starts to suffer the effects of his exposure to the crystals.

That's the worst case of red-eye I've ever seen. Sorenson's giving it some good old fashioned Jekyll and Hyde, but a swig of medicine and he's back to normal.

The Doctor is stretchered onto the ship to a very Star Trek like sick bay.

Tom's sideburns are quality.

The ship attempts to take off but the Doctor's still got his tin of blackpool rock.

Morelli's been on one of those supermodel diets.

De Haan says Morelli was killed by "some sort of an animal."

There's a random extra crewmember we've not really seen before. Bet he makes it out alive.

The Doctor's rumbled that someone's contaminated. Salamar uses his wooden brain & decides the TARDIS is to blame.

Sorenson starts to go a bit Hyde and Sarah gets that funny feeling when she hears him shaking his maracas.

The Invisible Man wastes Terry Scott. Crumbs, chief!

The Doctor nearly gives himself splinters taking Salamar out...

But he and Sarah don't get too far before they run into trouble...

The Doctor & Sarah being ejected into space on Salamar's orders - they're halfway out, their toes must be in space!

Part 4 starts and they've jumped back a bit when they're rescued! Cheat!

Wow, that extra's been killed. Who'da thunk it!

The Doctor finds some of Sorenson's crystal stash & tests out his rubbish medication...

Look out behind you...

The Doctor tells Sorenson his oral vaccine won't protect him against antiquark penetration. Ouch.

His "tissues are so monstrously hybridised that the next metabolic change could be the final one." Tom sells this so well.

"You and I are scientists, Professor. We buy our privilege to experiment at the cost of total responsibility."

Grim stuff as Sorenson attempts suicide before Anti-Man takes over completely...

The ship is being pulled back to Zeta Minor, and they're accelerating...
Salamar's gone completely nuts now, driven insane by his paranoid fear of losing his command.

The ship is being pulled back to Zeta Minor, and they're accelerating...

Why does Anti-Man have long hair? Is Anti-Matter a hitherto unsuspected cure for baldness?

It's all gone a bit base under siege now as they're trapped on the bridge with anti-men phasing through the walls.
"I'm going out now; I may be some time!" Does the Doctor really believe he might not be back?

Salamar attacks anti-man with some sort of portable heater, and it splits the creature into multiple copies.

It's not quite clear why waving a cannister of crystals at anti-man wards him off.
The Doctor manages to overpower the original Sorenson and get him into the TARDIS.

He races to take the last of the crystals back to blackpool, as the red outline monsters close in on Sarah & Vishinsky.

On the planet Sorenson breaks free of his restraints, but falls into blackpool with the crystals.

The ship is free and blackpool returns a blank looking Sorenson who seems to have been cured.

The Doctor returns Sorenson to the ship, and he's just about to start the whole thing again so the Doctor solves the energy crisis for him and sends them packing.

"Come on, Sarah. We've an appointment in London and we're already 30,000 years late!"
