A8 "Duel" (Blake's 7)

On a dark stormy night in a stone circle, a mysterious robed woman materializes...

Blimey it's obviously a bit... nippy. Crikey.

She summons an older woman, and they talk about restoring the balance...

In space, 3 ships hang there, waiting... It's Travis and the Mutoids (with their no. 1 hit "I'm not gonna lose him now").

The music forgets itself and goes a bit Blade Runner as the Liberator appears. No Deadly Dudley? Have to assume this is directed by Dougie Camfield then. (It is!)

Avon's whinging at Blake for leaving the lights on or somesuch.

The Mutoids inject themselves with tubes of green liquid ("blood serum"), but not usually in front of others like this.

Blake, Jenna & Gan teleport down to the stormy planet.

That statue is obviously meant to be some sort of figure of justice...

Vila's fallen asleep at the wheel and Travis has crept up on them.

Travis is right on top of them and they can't get away without getting in his range. They're getting pummelled.

The Liberator's batteries are nearly dead. Blake gives a half time team talk.

"There's nowhere to run Blake! Nowhere to hide!" Travis is on the Karaoke with a bit of Martha & the Vandellas.

Everything goes slo mo as the Liberator attempts to ram Travis. Everyone gets a headache. Except Avon, who's too cool.

It's the two women on the storm planet that have frozen them in time. They communicate psychically with the 2 crews.

Blake and Travis alone are brought to the planet below.

Travis' laser hand won't work here.

Travis wibbles on about hostile acts, the hostile so and so.

Their powers came out of 1000 years of war. They're a dead race.

"My people are with me by their own choice," claims Blake. "I should coco," says Avon.

When is Blake going to fight the Gorn?

The mysterious women decide to teach them a lesson about death... with a fight to the death!

They're given big machete like knives to use as "tools for survival", then each gets a buddy. Blake's is Jenna.

Blake finds himself transported to a forest with a carpet of leaves. Before long he hits some sort of forcefield.

Travis appears and instead of just sticking the machete in him, he just punches him a bit.

It's the old woman, Giroc, that's allowed Travis to get the drop; she seems to be enjoying this too much.

The younger woman, Sinofar, puts a stop to her bloodlust and separates them.

Sinofar speaks of having to put up with Giroc; they don't seem to be on the same page where this duel is concerned.

Blake & Jenna sharpen some sticks then run around till night falls.

Travis & the mutoid build a trap and camouflage it.

Blake and Jenna, sitting in a tree... K.I.L.L.I.N.G.

The Liberator crew watch Blake & Jenna share a rather pessimistic heart to heart on telly.

Travis wonders if the mutoid remembers who she was before she became a mutoid.

He tells her her name, but she doesn't care.

Avon thinks Blake and Travis might starting throwing nuts at each other.

Blake's had a bit of a nip from a hungry vampire bat.

The mutoid drank their blood.

In a scene obviously shot in studio with a CSO background, Travis plots to capture Jenna to use as bait.

Blake spies smoke in the distance, but when he calls for Jenna she's not there.

The mutoid deploys a syringe like device from her wrist to drain Jenna's blood, but Travis says it's not time for din-dins.

Blake avoids Travis' trap as the mutoid takes 3 goes to cut through the 'rope'.

Blake and Travis battle with staffs, and although Blake appears to win, he refuses to kill Travis.

The old woman appears. "You wouldn't want that served with onions! Oh, make an 'orse sick, that would!"

Blake prefers the devil he knows; he can beat Travis so he prefers to have him be the one chasing him.

Travis demands to be returned to his ship, but couldn't give a toss about the mutoid. Sinofar heals her anyway.

Travis says Blake has made one fatal error: "He should have killed me."

  1. Great episode. Douglas Camfield was an outstanding director.
