More Than Meets the Eye (Day One)

Totally awesome theme tune. Was never that keen on later versions.

Brilliant spacey sounds whenever we're swooping towards Cybertron.

The first Transformers we meet are Wheeljack and Bumblebee, they're on the rob for energy rods but soon run into Decepticons.

The Decepticons jets Skywarp and Thundercracker surround them with a ring of fire but they cut through.

Bumblebee is hit so Wheeljack takes Bumblebee on board. Always weird when Transformers have other Transformers inside their vehicle modes

If you're of a certain age, the incidental music is ingrained in your brain.

Love the badge-switchy bit between scenes. Iconic, in more ways than one!

Jazz reports to Optimus Prime, Prowl & Trailbreaker. They need a new source of energy.

While Soundwave reports to Megatron and Shockwave.

Starscream wants to be leader. Not on Megatron's watch.

The Autobots are leaving Cybertron in a spaceship to hunt new energy sources but the Decepticons follow in their own ship.

The ships head into the path of an asteroid collision...

Starscream wants to blow them away.

The Decepticons have clamped onto the Autobot ship and are boarding for a big barney.

The ship's out of control.

The ship crashes on a familiar looking planet and is buried in the heart of a volcano for 4 million years. Like you do.

An eruption trips the systems into life and the computer reconstructs the dead Transformers, in the form of vehicles on this planet.

Skywarp is the 1st to be resurrected so he puts the other Decepticons in the frame for a refit.

Megatron plots to steal the Earth's resources, while Starscream's vindictive streak allows the Autobots to be recontructed...

The Decepticons set about plundering energy sources.

We're about ten minutes in and we've had plenty of action and great, distinctive characters set up instantly.

Hound & Cliffjumper set off to hunt the Decepticons, who are trying to build a new ship.

Starscream plots to overthrow Megatron; Rumble isn't interested.

Cliffjumper takes a potshot at Megatron.

His rash actions have tipped the Decepticons off that their enemies have also survived.

Soundwave dispatches Laserbeak, so Hound & Cliffjumper split up.

Hound is hit and fails to jump a cliff.

The Autobots decide to set out & take on the Decepticons en masse, so Jazz does a roll call of which toys you should buy.

Some new characters introduced, or at least named, there, including Ironhide, Ratchet, Brawn, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker.

The Decepticons attack an oil rig and start manufacturing energon cubes - this is the energy that both sides have sought.

To a G1 purist like me, these are pretty much the only acceptable characters, in their only acceptable appearances. I don't accept those Michael Bay abominations.

Laserbeak distracts Prime, and Megatron blasts him off the rig. "Have a nice swim!"

We're left on a cliffhanger of Prime trapped under the burning wreckage of the oil rig, powerless to save the humans.

 Up yours, Bay. Right up.
