8th Doctor: Season Five (2005/6)

Terror Firma
is a brilliant return to form after the tedious divergent universe blind alley. does have a rushed too-easy ending & despite laudable efforts it's not really possible to make c'rizz interesting but has some big guns in terry molloy & an on form McGann, plus the tantalising Samson & Gemma flashbacks. The influence of the then newly returned TV series can be felt in Joe Lidster's sparky dialogue but doesn't just ape the new series, instead forging a new, envigorated era for McGann. 8/10

Scaredy Cat
is short for a Big Finish & tho it starts as a pleasingly spooky tale, it fudges a woolly living planet end. 6/10

Other Lives
is enormous fun, with a touching storyline that allows McGann to shine, finally a bit of sympathy for c'rizz & tho as usual Charley's nothing special, she gets the most scenes with Ron Moody in his star turn. 8.5/10
Time Works
has a nicely different time gone wrong central idea set in a claustrophobic world, but never quite comes alive. 6.5/10
Something Inside
is a dull backwards step after the last few stories' confident strides away from the divergent universe. thinks it's gritty but is just dull with a tedious possession finale. C'rizz & Charley continue to bore. 3/10
